Althea Gibson is being honored by Google on her birthday. Gibson was the first African-American to win the U.S. Nationals and Wimbledon tennis championships.
Gibson was born on this day in 1927 and was also the first African-American named the Associated Press Female Athlete of the Year in 1957, and she won again in 1958.
Gibson died in October 2003 in East Orange, N.J.
